Job Title: Senior Technical Specialist
Reporting to: Director, Information Technology
Location: 123 Commerce Valley Drive East, Markham, Ontario
Summary
Senior Technical Specialist, under limited supervision, provide system-level support of complex, multi-user development environments. He/she will be responsible for hardware and software installation, configuration, maintenance and support of these systems. He/she will require extensive knowledge of systems architectures, strong working knowledge with IBM WebSphere Application Server and Oracle 10g.
Key Responsibilities
Systems Support
- Works under existing IT standards and guidelines established by Director, IT
- Investigates, plans, implements, tests, and debugs systems
- Oracle and Websphere Application server deployment and administration
- Deals with day-to-day system administration issues including Security, Disk Space Management, Account Management, administration, etc. These involve Linux, Solaris and Windows environments
Application Support
- Designs, develops and implements integrated hardware / software system solutions to Camilion requirements such as source code control and configuration management. This includes support of custom developed applications
- Under direction of IT, records and maintains hardware and software inventories, site and/or server licensing, and user access and security for the company
- Responsible for creating and maintaining complex scripts, including Unix shell scripts, Jython scripts, database management scripts, etc
Other
- Maintains a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems
- Level 1 helpdesk support
- Customer support in your area of competence
- On Call rotation
Key Qualifications
- Very good knowledge of WebSphere 6.x
- Knowledge of Windows, AIX, Solaris, Linux OS
- Knowledge of J2EE, JSP, Servlets, EJBs, JDBC, JMS
- Knowledge of web based systems, JavaScript, HTML
- Knowledge of database administration and tuning, SQL (Oracle 9.x, 10.x), PL/SQL
- Knowledge of XML, XSL
- Good communication skills
- Willingness to take on short lead times and provide wide ranging application support
- A wide degree of creativity, initiative and latitude is expected
Education
University degree in computer science or equivalent
Experience
- 2+ years experience working with middleware
- 7+ years of IT industry experience
